Lakanto Answers Your Most Frequently Asked Questions
Searching for answers? We rounded up your top burning questions on Lakanto Monkfruit Sweeteners, talk about erythritol, and even answer the many places you can find our products online and on store shelves! You might already know some of these...but which ones are new to you? Dive in below to find out.
Why do you add erythritol to your monk fruit sweetener? Why isn’t it just monk fruit all on its own?
Great question! The reason erythritol is added to granulated Lakanto Monkfruit Sweeteners is because monk fruit can be 150x - 300x sweeter than sugar on its own. That’s a lot of sweetness! To put that into perspective, imagine eating a cookie-- now imagine multiplying the sweetness of that very cookie 300 times. Look, who doesn’t love cookies, but that? That’s a little too much cookie. At the end of the day the erythritol reels back that sweetness and instead, aims to find that sweet spot… literally.
So, how does it work exactly? In order to tone down the monk fruit’s sweetness and make it taste the same as sugar, it’s paired with erythritol. Erythritol is only 70% as sweet as sugar and closely resembles sugar as a granule, whereas monk fruit extract is a powder. This combination makes it granulated and easier to use in recipes without having to do math to convert it! Plus, there’s consistent sweetness throughout the whole bag. Each granule is monk fruit extract and erythritol.

Are Lakanto Monkfruit Sweeteners Interchangeable?
It all depends, but generally the answer is no. For the most part many sweeteners tend to serve a distinct purpose, which can vary from desired flavor, texture, or moisture content. Swapping one for the other may turn out to be a failed science experiment more than an actual baked goodie. At the end of the day, we can't guarantee that your recipes will turn out the way you want.
